  • David Sneider

    David SneiderMajor: Studio Music and Jazz

    Profile:

    David Sneider, trumpet, is majoring in Studio Music and Jazz at the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music, where he is a Stamps Distinguished Ensemble Scholar, Class of 2021. David is a member of the award-winning Stamps Jazz Quintet, directed by Chuck Bergeron. He studies jazz trumpet privately with Brian Lynch.

    Born to a family of musicians, David grew up right next to the New York jazz scene. He has performed with such artists as Gary Smulyan, Dick Oatts, Sean Jones, Avishai Cohen, Dave Holland, Pete Malinverni, Joel Frahm, and Brian Lynch.

    David has received notable recognitions as Outstanding Soloist in the 2017 DownBeat Student Music Awards, honorable mention in 2018 from the National YoungArts Foundation, Best Soloist three years in a row at the Sleepy Hollow Jazz Festival, and Outstanding Soloist at the 2018 Next Generation Jazz Festival. In addition, he was chosen for the 2016 Vail Jazz Workshop and the 2017 Berklee Global Jazz Institute Workshop at the Newport Jazz Festival.

    Jered Byford, trombone, is majoring in Studio Music and Jazz at the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music, where he is a Stamps Distinguished Ensemble Scholar, Class of 2021. Jered is a member of the award-winning Stamps Jazz Quintet, directed by Chuck Bergeron. He studies jazz trombone privately with Dante Luciani.

    Jered is a graduate of Mount Si High School in the state of Washington.

  • Timothy Watson

    Tim WatsonMajor: Studio Music and Jazz

    Profile:  

    Tim Watson, guitar, is majoring in Studio Music and Jazz at the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music where he is a Stamps Distinguished Ensemble Scholar, Class of 2021. Tim is a member of the award-winning Stamps Jazz Quintet, directed by Chuck Bergeron. He studies jazz guitar privately with John Hart.

    Tim is a guitarist and composer from Boston, MA. He is a graduate of New England Conservatory Preparatory School, having studied with John Hart, Ben Monder, and Jamie Stewardson.

    Tim’s awards include a 2018 National YoungArts Honorable Mention in both Jazz Performance and Jazz Competition, the Adam Gurley Green Composition Award for his piece “Fantasia for Electric Guitar”, as well as Outstanding Soloist/Musicianship at the Clark Terry Jazz Festival, the UMASS Amherst Jazz Competition, and Best Section at the 2015 Mingus Competition. Tim has competed in Essentially Ellington at Jazz at Lincoln Center, the Mingus Competition at Manhattan School of Music, and performed abroad in Germany as a member of the Lexington High School Jazz Ensemble.

  • Maxwell Schwartz

    Maxwell SchwartzMajor: Studio Music and Jazz

    Profile: 

    Maxwell Schwartz, bass, is majoring in Studio Music and Jazz at the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music, where he is a Stamps Distinguished Ensemble Scholar, Class of 2021. Max is a member of the award-winning Stamps Jazz Quintet directed by Chuck Bergeron. He studies jazz bass privately with Chuck Bergeron.

    Max is a multi-genre instrumentalist and composer from Boston, MA. Highly acclaimed as both a bluegrass and jazz musician, Schwartz first appeared at age 16 with Grammy Award-winning bluegrass artist Laurie Lewis and the Right Hands. He toured with Lewis for three years throughout the United States, as well as with The Page Turners, an award-winning acoustic music duo based in Austin, TX, and Simon Lunche, a rising pop-rock artist from Berkeley, CA.

    Max has also toured internationally as a jazz bassist, including a 2015 summer tour of France, Switzerland and Italy, two trips to Cuba in 2014 and 2016, and a trip to Japan with the 2016 Next Generation Jazz Orchestra. Max was a member of both the SFJAZZ High School All-Stars Orchestra and Combo, and he was selected two consecutive years to play bass in the GRAMMY Jazz Combos.

  • Marcello Carelli

    Marcello CarelliMajor: Studio Music and Jazz

    Profile: 

    Marcello Carelli, drums, is Majoring in Studio Music and Jazz at the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music, where he is a Stamps Distinguished Ensemble Scholar, Class of 2021. Marcello is a member of the award-winning Stamps Jazz Quintet, directed by Chuck Bergeron. He studies jazz drumset privately with Steve Rucker and John Yarling.

    The son of professional performing artists, Marcello began playing with his father’s jazz ensemble at the age of eight. He graduated from Fox Lane High School in Bedford, New York, and attended Manhattan School of Music's Precollege Program for five years with a concentration in jazz and classical. There, he was awarded the D’Addario Scholarship and the MSM Jazz Scholarship for his exemplary talent and academic performance. In 2016 and 2017, Marcello was recognized as a Young Arts Foundation Merit and Honorable Mention winner in Jazz, as well as Outstanding Soloist at the Berklee High School Jazz festival. A member of the Westchester All-County and New York All-State Bands, he played in both the All-Eastern and All-National Jazz Ensembles in 2017.
